5) Stefan De Vrij to Chelsea
The Dutchman was high on Antonio Conte’s wish list this summer. After a disastrous last season, it was clear that Chelsea needed reinforcements at the back. The club chased De Vrij along with Kalidou Koulibaly. Both moves didn’t work out for the blues and they may well live to regret not increasing their bids for the duo. Chelsea did fork out 38 million Euros to bring back David Luiz. But doubts persist over the Brazilian’s concentration and abilities. De Vrij could have been an excellent buy for the blues, especially considering the fact that De Vrij is well accustomed to a back three. He played in a back three for Louis Van Gaal’s Holland at the world cup and again for the current coach Danny Blind.
