7) Victor Valdes to Middlesbrough
The former Barcelona goalkeeper endured a torrid time at Manchester United. After deciding to leave Barcelona in 2014, Valdes’ decline has been shocking. He sustained a knee cruciate ligament injury that thwarted his move to AS Monaco in France. Former manager, Louis Van Gaal, signed him up for Manchester United. However, his relationship with the Dutchman estranged and he was forced to train with the reserve side. He left for Standard Leige on loan but made just five appearances. The Middlesbrough manager, Aitor Karanka, has given Valdes a chance to resurrect his career by signing him up in what surely was one of the most unexpected transfers of the summer.
