Over the years, Vincent Kompany has marshalled Manchester City’s defence. Since joining from Hamburg in 2008 for a mere 6 million Euros, the Belgian has established himself as one of the world’s best defenders.  City, however, have always failed in their pursuit of bringing in another quality centre back to support Kompany.  Over the years, Jerome Boateng and Matija Nastasic were tried but they failed.  Their woes looked to finally end with the capture of Elaquim Mangala in 2014 for a whopping 32 million Euros.  However, a string of inconsistent performances from Mangala and Kompany’s struggle with fitness has meant that the duo failed to fulfill their potential.  Mangala might even leave the club this summer.
